What We Treat

Autoimmune Disease

The immune system is designed to fight infections, like viruses and bacteria. Our bodies are so intricately complex and amazingly made so it makes no sense why the immune system would turn on itself and attack itself as it does in autoimmune disease.

Autoimmune diseases are just that. They occur when the body’s natural defenses–the immune system–attack the body’s own healthy tissues. Examples of autoimmune diseases are Crohn’s disease, Type 1 Diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Rheumatoid Arthritis, Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, Celiac Disease, Lupus, and Psoriasis.

It isn’t that the body’s immune system is upregulated in autoimmune disease, it’s that it’s dysregulated or confused. The body is wasting precious resources attacking itself! This is never normal and always demands a deep look into what is happening at the root level. For autoimmune disease to occur, three things are necessary:

  • First, there has to be a genetic predisposition.
  • Second, there is a trigger–something that sets the disease in motion. This trigger can be an infection, a drug, gluten, or environmental exposure.
  • Lastly, there has to be a leaky gut. Whatever has triggered the immune system also leaks across the gut wall into the bloodstream. The body recognizes this as a foreign invader and mounts an immune response against it attacking your own tissues in the process.

We can’t alter our actual genetics, but we can heal the gut and attempt to identify and eliminate the trigger. Autoimmune disease can be healed and reversed. Angela’s Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis was reversed after working with me. Learn more about her story here: Angela’s story.
